Early Preparation for our Care Package Drive
We will soon be in early stages of preparing for our care package drive for 2017. It would be nice to send about 12 packages again this year.
Members and volunteers have assisted with gathering donations and packing care packages in the last few years. Local girl scout troops have donated cookies to send with packages in the fall or early spring.
Packages cannot include much chocolate due to the extreme temperatures and smaller hygiene items are preferred due to packaging space. Liquids are sealed in zip lock bags so contents will not leak. Often times we will send more than one box to a unit and keep liquids separate from food items.
Some of the items we have sent in our care packages include: general hygiene items, Ra men noodles, microwavable soup, mac n cheese, tuna packs, crackers, cheese, beef jerky, venison jerky, fruit cups, small boxed milk (doesn't require refrigeration), drink mixes, coffee, ketchup, salt, pepper, sugar packets, hard candy, gum, para cord, sheets, pillows, blankets, batteries, stationary supplies, hair clippers, socks (black or olive drab), trash bags, extra zip lock bags, local newspapers, magazines, books, DVDs, mouse traps, chap stick, sunblock, sunglasses, fruit cake, and of course letters and cards from home.
Make a donation each month:
February: travel size hygiene items (soaps, shampoos, toothbrushes etc.)
March: trash bags, zip lock bags, stationary supplies
April: socks (black or olive drab)
May: reading materials, magazines, books, crosswords, newspapers, etc.
June: food items and drink mixes
If you know someone in the military who would like to receive a care package, please contact Krista Hiner at 304-668-5520.
