YOUTH CREATIVE PATRIOTIC ART SCHOLARSHIP CONTEST
Officially known as the Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest, this annual scholarship contest gives talented art students in grades 9-12 an opportunity to compete for up to $10,000 for college.

Brianna Jones' depiction of a United States Army Soldier has made it's way to Huntington, WV, for state judging. The Union High School senior took third place in the state in the Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest sponsored by the VFW’s Ladies Auxiliary.
The contest combines artistic talent with patriotic vision. Students must attach a “meaningful message” explaining their entry, according to the website. McIntosh called the eagle the noble symbol of American strength, courage and beauty....

The Potomac Highlands VFW Post #6454 Auxiliary annually sponsors a Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest for youth of Grant & Pendleton Counties.
With the cooperation and guidance of longtime Petersburg High School art teacher Michelle Hedrick, students create works for entry in the local contest each spring.

The artwork theme must be patriotic and students are welcome to use a number of mediums including watercolor, pencil, pastel, charcoal, tempera, crayon, acrylic, pen-and-ink, oils and even digital production for their works.
Judging
Each entry is judged by a local committee on the originality of concept, presentation, patriotism expressed, clarity of ideas, design technique, total impact of work and its uniqueness.

Attention Local Art Instructors:
Contest entry form is available for download to your right. Forms must be completed for entries submitted from each school and a short essay description about their artwork must accompany their entry. Current participating schools include Petersburg High School. We encourage participation from Union High School and Pendleton County High School students. An Auxiliary member will be in contact with the local schools for the 2014 school year. |

The Young American Creative Patriotic Art Competition was established to recognize and reward high school students for expressing their patriotism visually through their art.
Artwork submitted must be on paper or canvas. Students may use watercolor, pencil, pastel, charcoal, tempura, crayon acrylic, pen-and-ink or oil. Entries must be matted in white (2 to 2 1/2 inch wide). The picture should be no smaller than 8" x 10", but no larger than 18 " x 24" (not including mat). Do not frame entries. Flag code must be followed.
Recognition will be given to those students whose artwork illustrates a patriotic theme and has a "meaningful message" attached that explains their entry.
